Schuler
German Edge Cloud (GEC) is cooperating with Schuler, a machine and plant building company. In this context, Schuler is offering a track-and-trace solution for press plants within the Digital Suite, based on technology from German Edge Cloud. The Schuler Digital Suite with the “track-and-trace application powered by GEC” is being used, among other things, in the Smart Press Shop, a joint venture between Schuler and Porsche.
„With our data-driven press shop and the associated Schuler Digital Suite track-and-trace system, we are responding to our customers’ call for easy-to-use total solutions,” explains Domenico Iacovelli, the Schuler Group’s CEO. As a companion on the path to digitalisation, the company is thus ensuring complete transparency in production: “In the event of any product recalls, for example, the entire supply chain can be traced – without any gaps – and the cause of the fault can be quickly identified.“

Rittal
At its Haiger plant, Rittal consistently manufactures keeping with Industry 4.0 standards. The world’s leading system provider for enclosure technology, power distribution, climate control, IT infrastructure, software and service has one of the latest digitally integrated enclosure manufacturing systems. Solutions from Rittal’s sister company German Edge Cloud are also used in the smart factory. A live dashboard system ensures transparency throughout the entire production process, enabling rapid intervention if necessary. A cycle of analytics, alerts and live dashboarding uses data to generate findings and optimizations.
„For instance, we recently experienced an interruption on the packaging line. It was fixed within a minute thanks to the live dashboard system. Our plant managers and executives can immediately see how long a line is automatically stopped, whether there are any open transport orders for the driverless transport system and at what level the quantities are per day and per shift,” says Moritz Heide, Head of System Maintenance and Work Preparation at Rittal's factory in Haiger. He continues: „This gives us greater transparency and complete control across all the units and systems in production, which in turn leads to big gains in efficiency.“

Fraunhofer
The German Edge Cloud (GEC) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT in Aachen are developing an open research platform and test environment. In this, solutions for digitalized production can be researched and tested under practical conditions. The platform under the name "Fraunhofer Edge Cloud" is intended as a real laboratory for science and industry. It is based on GEC's Edge Cloud technology and the International Data Spaces (IDS) architecture for secure and sovereign data exchange.
„By connecting Fraunhofer facilities, the Fraunhofer Edge Cloud is an important building block for standardizing our IT and making it fit for the future. The aim is to be able to use IT and cloud capacities flexibly and thus ensure the easy scalability of required IT resources such as computing power, storage and network capacities," explains Sven Jung from the Fraunhofer IPT, who is leading the project on the technical side, and adds: "At the same time, we are providing industry and research with a secure and data-sovereign platform that makes it easier to evaluate and develop solutions for modern production.“
