Schuler

German Edge Cloud (GEC) is cooperating with Schuler, a machine and plant building company. In this context, Schuler is offering a track-and-trace solution for press plants within the Digital Suite, based on technology from German Edge Cloud. The Schuler Digital Suite with the “track-and-trace application powered by GEC” is being used, among other things, in the Smart Press Shop, a joint venture between Schuler and Porsche.

„With our data-driven press shop and the associated Schuler Digital Suite track-and-trace system, we are responding to our customers’ call for easy-to-use total solutions,” explains Domenico Iacovelli, the Schuler Group’s CEO. As a companion on the path to digitalisation, the company is thus ensuring complete transparency in production: “In the event of any product recalls, for example, the entire supply chain can be traced – without any gaps – and the cause of the fault can be quickly identified.“

Rittal plant in in Haiger: Energy shift in the smart factory

We are en route to becoming an “all-electric society” with “carbon-neutral production.” In future, adequate and/or plannable supplies of energy will not be available for industrial production, or will be extremely costly.

If we have the ability to manage production depending on energy cost and availability, this can be a lever for positive change. The digitalization of factories is urgently needed.

Smart, energy-efficient production relies on transparent data flows (product, production processes, machinery and systems). Before you can optimise, you need to measure and understand what is going on in your production line. Do robots X,Y and Z really need to be activated simultaneously, or can expensive peak loads be avoided? Which parameters change the energy demand of my paint shop, and how?

At the Rittal plant in Haiger we are working hard to address these issues. The entire production network can benefit from our experiences, although it is important to understand that there is no simple blueprint or off-the-shelf solution. The days of rolling out identical concepts worldwide are over.  These days, markets and regions develop in very different ways. As a company, our role is to develop standardised platforms which support local modularisation. The ONCITE Digital Production System makes this possible.

Transparency is vital for all downstream stages, and is already being implemented successfully at the Rittal plant in Haiger with the help of the ONCITE Digital Production System. Andon and performance dashboards provide summarized overviews of processes, for example with regard to energy consumption and production bottlenecks, enabling a rapid response. This is followed by near-realtime analyses of complex Industry 4.0 production processes, enabling decisions to be made that will boost productivity and energy efficiency.
